Images of Steel in Portsmouth & New Boston: The 1920s and ‘30s

January 29 through March 26

An Ackerman Collection Exhibition

The Portsmouth Steel Works employed some 5,000 workers who toiled at ovens and furnaces, making products for worldwide markets. These images document the scale of operations at the time of the 1936 strike, which left one dead, others injured, made national headlines, and contributed to the unionization of American industry.

Exhibit curated by Andrew Feight, Ph.D.
