The Power of Objects . Collection of Maureen Cadogan

African beliefs include the concept that objects have power, a power to affect change, change in the lives of those who come in contact with them.

Local collector, Maureen Cadogan, has preserved the history of the journey of the African American people through objects and images, archiving objects that reflect the experiences of people from African, though slavery, the Jim Crow era, and into contemporary times.

The objects in her collection are powerful, and have the power to change viewpoints, perspectives, outlooks, and hence, also change lives. With storied quilts, shackles, disparaging toys and pop-culture icons from segregation to success stories, this powerful collection is not to be missed.

Rod Bouc: Under the Sun

Rod Bouc’s large-scale landscapes are rich and tactile. Inspired by the Midwest landscapes that surrounded him on the Nebraska farm he grew up on, these paintings are loaded with feeling and emotion. He has mastered lights and shadows; you can all but feel the sun on your face. The compositions of these paintings are strong. The surfaces are textural, as they are executed with paint sticks, charcoal, and wet paint overlays.

“I’m interested in drawing the viewer into the painting using illusionary space and the graphic rhythm of the shadow,” states the artist.

Material Pulses: Seven Viewpoints

Curated by renown quilter Nancy Crow, Material Pulses is the culmination of her mission to bring back the majesty, strength, and energy of textile works. The seven artists represent the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, and some quilts are over 100” long.

Organized by Exhibits USA.

The Art of Judith Brandon

We are all subjects of nature. Nature balances devastation with healing and life-giving; it restores horror with glory and beauty. “Through these observations I see myself. This is the divine language of the universe and the narrative I continue to draw upon.” Oversize in scale, these sky-scapes surround the viewer with power of nature.

The Ceramic Figures of Juliellen Byrne

The figural work of Juliellen Byrne is narrative, but also enchanting, warming, disturbing, and questioning; in essence, it is the state of being human.

“The notion of narrative has always been of interest to me. Clay has the capacity to render a godlike power in details and makes it possible for me to tell stories without words. Stories involving balance and the imbalance of power are usually my starting point.”
